If building or maintaining a strong, healthy body is your desire, then Uniontown is the place to be. The city provides a lighted park where the avid and the not-so-avid walkers can meet friends and get a "good walk" at the same time. Affordable housing for the elderly, handicapped, and the general population is also available. The city host horse sales every third Saturday, which attract people from around the country.
Citizens utilize the services of grocery stores, a bank, which is open six days a week, hair styling shops, restaurants, clothing stores, a drug store, a flower shop, auto parts stores, and serveral service stations, one which allows customers to use credit cards to purchase gasoline 24 hours a day. Recently, the library relocated in its bank donated building in the heart of the downtown area, making its many services accessible to rural citizens as wells as to city dwellers.
Not only are we helping to educate, but we are also attracting new businesses and expanding existing ones. This includes the expansion of the Southeastern cheese plant. We have also opened a new Dollar General store, located in the downtown area, and put up new welcome signs at some of the major entrances to our town. Moreover, we are in the process of a new building project. This project entails building a small strip mall, which will allow our new Dollar General store to move to a better location, as well as bring in several new businesses to our town. We have also started a campaign to rid the city of some of the dilapidated buildings that are located here in Uniontown. Furthermore, we are proud of the 1.2 million dollar expansion of Harvest Select Catfish, which will generate an additional 60 jobs for our community.
Catfish farming in the area and a catfish processing plant, Harvest Select, help boost the city's economy by providing jobs for Uniontown's citizens and citizens from surrounding areas. These citizens spend part of their earnings here. Additionally, catfish is sold locally and nationally.
Another business, The Farmers Market, which operates during the summer months, provides local farmers opportunities to sell fresh produce grown on their farms.
Because we are located on U.S. Highway 80, travel connections to arteries that lead to cities and states to the east, west, north and south can be easily made.
